We were honoured to be featured in The Sunday Times for our industry niche use of social media, but we wanted to take a moment to share more about why this work matters to us. In the article, Ella Kipling highlights how platforms like TikTok and Instagram are helping us expose poor construction practices, but there’s more to the story.
As a company we find ourselves lucky enough to experience the exciting milestone of people buying their new home every day. But, we also know it can quickly turn into a nightmare if the property is riddled with issues, known in the industry as “snags.”
From misaligned tiles to faulty plumbing, these defects can be frustrating for new homeowners, especially when they’ve invested in what should be a perfect new build. As a company dedicated to helping homeowners identify and address these problems before they become major headaches we of course take this very seriously (yes including the little things, because they all count).
In The Sunday Times article, you learned how our journey began with Instagram posts, which then skyrocketed on TikTok after Steven Griffin’s (owner of Snagsure) daughter introduced us to the platform. We also shared our thoughts on why interest in snagging videos has surged, leading to 123,000 followers and millions of views.
This rise in popularity has not only brought attention to the common issues found in new homes but has given the opportunity to work on celebrity properties, including those of Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Martinez and his Hollyoaks partner, Gemma Atkinson.
We can certainly understand why the posts resonate with viewers for a couple of reasons: first, the shock value. Many people can’t believe the substandard work that sometimes passes as professional in the housing industry. Second, there’s an element of curiosity, people enjoy seeing the inside of other people’s homes, especially when there’s something to critique and having an idea for what to look for if they are buying a new home themselves.
As mentioned in the article, 212,570 new homes were built across the UK last year (2023) alone, with the government planning to construct an additional 1.5 million over the next five years it means standards must be upheld (or improved).
Being a professional snagging company we know that no developer sets out to deliver a subpar home, the reality is that skill shortages in the construction industry can lead to a decline in experience and quality. This is why we’re proud to be partnered with developers who want to ensure their dedication to quality control remains at its top.
For new homeowners, the message is clear, please do not skip the snagging process. Hiring a professional service like Snagsure is key, because attention to detail is not just about finding faults; it’s about enhancing the overall quality and longevity of a property, saving you a lot of trouble down the line.
Thank you to The Sunday Times for the feature, and to our clients for trusting Snagsure with your newly built homes.
